The beautiful Balloons of Bhutan.

Jonathan Harris is a photographer and a micro-storyteller and a traveler and a personal hero of mine.

When I describe art I always say: I don't know about art. I just know what I like.

I know that the richness and colors in Jonathan's work is as moving and incredible as it gets for me.

Harris' latest released project, Balloons of Bhutan, visited the region of Bhutan where happiness reigns supreme. He used balloons to measure the happiness and wishes of 117 residents.

Writes Harris on his site documenting the project, "Instead of "Gross National Product", Bhutan uses "Gross National Happiness" to measure its socio-economic prosperity, essentially organizing its national agenda around the basic tenets of Buddhism."

A beautiful project about a beautiful region of the world and its beautiful people.

The spectacular Ryan McGinley and his subject's spectacular butt.

Take away the spectacularness of the buttocks of the man pictured above and what you're left with (those of us who are decent and good and not completely sexually deviant and can take our eyes away from such perfect buttocks) is the spectacularness of this photograph by Ryan McGinley on display now at LA's new OHWOW Gallery.

Knitting for a new generation.

If I could knit, I'd want to knit this. Oh, and I'd also want to look like that while sitting on my knit motorbike. (While dreaming, always dream big, right?)

Find out more about the creators, Knittaplease, and watch the corresponding video here.

Tonight: Full Bleed Photography Exhibition

Thanks to my pal Jesse for reminding me about this great one. I can't go, but please everyone--go for me. Take snaps of all the hipsters in a 15 mile of Downtown for me as they'll surely all be swarming this warehouse tonight. But, in earnest, the show should be cool.

Design Dish: Levis + Opening Ceremony + Ryan McGinley = Awesome

Levi's and Opening Ceremony have collaborated on a line. Which I find bizarre and fascinating and wonderful. and photog Ryan McGinley, who's been getting lots of buzz lately (he recently shot Olympian athletes wearing Rodarte for NYT), shot the campaign. Wow. Stunning.

Beautiful things: Tim Walker's fantasy photos.

The photography of London-based artist Tim Walker makes me want to walk through a mirror and come out the other side into his world. Because I'm pretty sure there'd be unicorns there. And probably calorie-free milkshakes too.

Beautiful Things: Peter Beard. Photography and collage collide.

I had the chance to flip through Peter Beard's book in Taschen this afternoon (god forgive me for spending part of a Saturday at the Grove).Though I spotted it on my way out and only had a moment with it, I was captivated by the imagery. Nudes make me happy. Collage makes me happier. Beard's work does the trick on both counts.

art in LA (and beyond): Gronk's hotness in black & white.

If you missed the closing night of Mondo Gronk at the CB1 Gallery in Downtown LA this past weekend, the exhibition travels next to Madrid. After that, you can catch Gronk's sexy black and whites on exhibit back at LACMA come 2011. Yum.

Helmut Newton - black, white and nude all over.

Just a glimpse at the work of a photographic legend. Because I love a legend, I love a good eye, and I love naked people (in no particular order).

I will sadly miss this special occasion for work (what's new?!), but couldn't go the week without sharing the news with all of you!

art in LA: Gregory Bojorquez's 'The Sun Rises In The East'

I was introduced to Gregory Bojorquez' work a few years ago at Lab 101 (now the Cerasoli:LeBasse Gallery) where he then shared a show with another killer LA photog, Estevan Oriol. Like Oriol, his work is mostly in black and white and mostly focuses on Latino subjects on the streets of LA.

Just wanted to share this invite from the 01 Gallery to the opening reception of Bojorquez's new exhibition, 'The Sun Rises In The East.'

I hope to see you there!

01 Gallery invites you to the opening of
The Sun Rises In The East
An exhibition by photographer Gregory Bojorquez

As a native of East L.A., Gregory Bojorquez has always found inspiration and subject matter in his community. He began photographing the neighborhoods of East L.A. in order to document the reality of the life and death extremes of the streets. This led Bojorquez to create "The Eastsiders," a photo essay on street happenings and character portraits all framed by the backdrop of East Los Angeles. This stark yet compassionate photo essay caught the attention of L.A. Weekly who began to publish his work. This soon led Bojorquez to publish in various L.A. magazines as well as develop his photography to include celebrity portraits such as Kobe Bryant, Ice Cube, and many other Hollywood entertainers.

The 01 Gallery invites the public to view this unique and passionate slice of L.A. life as seen through the eyes of Gregory Bojorquez.

The 01 Gallery opens the Gregory Bojorquez exhibition in conjunction with the Chaz Bojorquez exhibition "Graff Since 69" in the adjoining main gallery. (No relation.)
