You know I love Regina Spektor. Not in a scary way. But more like in a I could listen to her all day, every day and be kinda happy way.
One of my favorite songs off her 2009 album is 'Two Birds.' This video is not an official one. But it's a fun exploration of the lyrics as well as Spektor's erratic tempos.

Culture Jam. Innovative social media start up. Music marketer. My new employer.
In a perfect world, I'd lay on a beach all morning, hike in the afternoons and break for yoga and pasta lunches in between. In a slightly less than perfect world, I have to work to put the gluten free bread on the table. But in this slightly less than perfect world in which I am apparently not a woman of leisure, I have found an incredibly perfect job and for that I am grateful. I have begun work this week as the Marketing & Editorial Director at Culture Jam, a new social media start up in...wait for it...Santa Monica. I know I've never been a West Side girl. But...I am now.

Sounds: Regina Spektor, how I adore thee
Regina Spektor is one of my favorite artists. I have Pandora to thank for introducing me to her music going on 2 years ago. So, thank you Pandora. I owe you my first born. *The Soviet-born singer has a song for every season, is phenomenally talented, and has done all she's done (including scoring a place in the recent '(500) Days of Summer' soundtrack) in less than 30 years which impresses me to no end.
Regina Spektor happens to be playing LA's Greek Theatre next month. This is a fact I have known for a while and done very little about until now. Here is how very much I'd like to go to the show...
- I would give up Diet Coke for a week to go.
- I would beg, lie and steal to go.
- I would buy a ticket with exorbitant 'Convenience' (convenient, my ass) Charges.

I leave you with one of my favorite Regina Spektor tunes...

The Pictures: (500) Days of Summer
I attended Gen Art's advance screening of '(500) Days of Summer' tonight. I went with high hopes for romance. (There is nothing more satisfying than a happy ending when you most expect it.) The film was definitely going to be an 'artsy' one--Zooey Deschanel seems to favor the kind (even her role in the uber-commercial 'Elf' was subversive)--but the trailer seemed to offer the promise of love--or at least love-making--and indie romance is better than none. But [without disclosing too much] '(500) Days of Summer' didn't deliver the happy ending I was hoping for.The filmmakers depicted a stunningly truthful and beautiful portrayal of love's realistic pitfalls. But in the film's cinematic universe, the characters are far more attractive than the rest of us and are able to pick up the pieces of a broken heart at a rather un-realistically rapid pace. The leads, played by Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, show much greater resilience and experience a good deal more luck than us mere non-actor mortals.
The movie is out on July 17th. See it for yourself. Perhaps the ending will satisfy you and your bizarre desire for realism in art. If nothing else, the soundtrack was pretty rad, featuring the likes of The Smiths, Feist, Hall & Oates, my absolute fave Regina Spektor, and other fine musicians.
